Day 01 LIMA
Arrival in Lima. Reception and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon visit to Colonial and Modern Lima. Guided tour through the historic center of the city. Admire the beauty of San Martin and Major squares, the Cathedral, the Government Palace and visit the Convent of San Francisco and its catacombs Convent, a religious building from the end of the XVI century. Also drive through the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores.
Day 02 LIMA - ICA - NASCA
Transfer to the bus station to take the tourist bus to Ica. Upon arrival, visit to the city including the Regional Museum of Ica, housing a great collection of fossils, mummies, Paracas mantles, Nasca ceramics, and Colonial and Republican art pieces, the Lagoon of Huacachina and a winery where you will be able to observe the process of Pisco-making, the typical Peruvian drink and ingredient of the famous Pisco Sour. Afternoon transfer to your hotel in Nasca.
Day 03 NASCA - PARACAS
Morning flight over the Nasca Lines. It is an area of approximately 500-km/310 ml of Pampa, where the mysterious lines were discovered in 1927. The real dimension of these lines can be fully appreciated by air. They represent diverse animal figures, as a spider, a monkey, a dog, a lizard, a humming bird, and a condor. The dimensions of these figures vary from 15 to 300 m/50 to 1,000 ft. high each. Continue with Archaeological tour of Nasca including Chauchilla Pre-Inca cemetery. You will also appreciate the process of artisan gold extraction. Transfer to your hotel in Paracas Bay.
Day 04 PARACAS - LIMA
Morning cruise to the Ballestas Islands, where you will see sea lions, penguins, and more than 60 species of sea birds. You will also see the huge "Candelabrum" drawn in a sand slope. Return by tourist bus to Lima and transfer to hotel.
Day 05 LIMA - CUSCO
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Cusco. Upon arrival transfer to hotel. Balance of the morning at leisure to adjust to the high altitude (11,000 feet). Afternoon city tour and nearby ruins. Visit Main Square, the Cathedral and its religious Art Museum, the Church of Santo Domingo or Koricancha . Includes visits to Sacsayhuaman and Puca Pucara fortresses, the temple and amphitheater of Kenko and the water shrine of Tambomachay.
Day 06 CUSCO - MACHU PICCHU
Transfer to the station for a morning train ride to the unparalleled, Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas". Machu Picchu was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site, probably the gateway to the jungle marches of the Inca Empire. The central buildings were erected with the polished stonework of the Cusco Imperial style, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. Machu Picchu was associated with the earth cult revolving around the Coca leaf, which was a privilege restricted to the Inca Royal family and priests. Guided tour and lunch. Overnight at one of the hotels in the area.
Day 07 MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
Morning free to explore the ruins on your own or visit the hot springs of Aguas Calientes. Mid afternoon departure by train to Cusco. Upon arrival transfer to hotel.
Day 08 CUSCO - PUERTO MALDONADO - RESERVA AMAZONICA
Transfer to the airport in time to take the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Reception and transfer to the small town of Puerto Maldonado. Short tour to the Main Street and "Plaza de Armas". Departure from the riverside dock on a dugout canoe to the Reserva Amazonica, located at about 10 miles (45 minutes) down river on the Madre de Dios. After lunch, leisure walk in the forest with a native guide who will explain y the exuberant fauna and flora and will introduce you to the life in the Amazon basin. Also visit to our new Botanical Garden, which shows more than two hundred native and medicinal plants. Typical dinner and night.
Day 09 RESERVA AMAZONICA
After and early breakfast, excursion in a dugout canoe to the other side of the riverbank, walk in the forest towards the Sandoval Lake. This beautiful and off-the-beaten-path lake offers extraordinary views of the huge trees and palms reflecting in the quiet waters. Tour around the lake in a row boat to observe the interesting wildlife with exotic birds, turtles and other animals; with a little luck you will be able to see caimans sleeping on the sandy shores. Swimming is possible in the lake. Return on foot to the shore of the Madre de Dios River, and by boat to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon visit to a native farm to observe the way of life of natives and their cultures: tapioca roots, lime, mandarins, orange trees, bananas, and sugar cane. Typical dinner.
Day 10 RESERVA AMAZONICA
Early breakfast. Only during the dry season, (between April and November) is it possible observe gold panning on the sand beaches (most of the Peruvian gold is found in the Madre de Dios area, called "Paititi" by the Incas and "Dorado" by the Spaniards). When this excursion is not possible, a walk into the virgin jungle is offered instead. Excursion to the unspoiled Gamitana Island to observe the local flora and fauna. Lunch at the Lodge. In the afternoon excursion by boat to, after a five minute ride, stop and go on a short walk to see "Fitzcarrald" the last Amazon steam boat which lays trapped in the forest vines and which inspired us to invite Werner Herzog to direct the film "Fitzcarraldo" (Gold Palm, Cannes 1982). Then continue to the Monkey Island located in front of Cusco Amazónico. Walk through the Island to observe various species of native monkeys: The small Coto, the black Machín, the white Machín, the large Maquisapa, the Musmuqui, the small Pichico, the Choro whose fur looks like cotton wool. Typical dinner.
Day 11 RESERVA AMAZONICA - PUERTO MALDONADO - LIMA
After breakfast, return to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima. Upon arrival transfer to hotel. Afternoon guided shopping tour.
Day 12 LIMA - HOME
Transfer to the airport for your international departure flight or continue on the extension of your choice.
