OVERLANDING PROGRAM
5 DAYS : CUSCO, ABANCAY, PAMPA GALERAS, NASCA & PARACAS, LIMA

Departures: Monthly, 3rd Saturday
Minimum: 7 participants
Season: March to November

Those who started their voyage in the south will find in this trip the best way to keep on exploring the natural and cultural wealth in Peru, while visiting three protected areas with totally different landscapes: from the deep valleys in the eastern Andes , we will climb to the high Andean plains, and down again to the coastal deserts and the Pacific Ocean.

Day 01 (Sat) CUSCO - ABANCAY
Lunch - dinner
We leave Cusco and on to a route taking us to Chincheros and the Anta Plain. After reaching the first crossing, we will arrive to the warmth of the Lima Tambo valley and visit the ruins of Kurawasi. We will cross the Apurímac river where we will enjoy the thermal baths of Jonoc before we initiate our ascent towards Saywite and its famous sculpted monolith. Then we start a short descent to the city of Abancay where we shall stay overnight at a hotel.
Includes lunch at hot springs.

Day 02 (Sun) ABANCAY - AMPAY SANCTUARY - PACHACHACA
Full board
We will dedicate the morning to exploring the National Sanctuary located only half an hour from the city of Abancay. This place has been established to protect the forests of Intimpa, an almost extinguished Andean coniferous species, as well as a wide variety of native flora and animals. A three hour hike through a path going through this forest will get us to the Uspacocha and Ankascocha ponds which have their origin in the glacier write on top of them.
We then will return to Abancay to continue our trip on the Valley of the Pachachaca River. We shall camp on the riverside.

Day 03 (Mon) PACHACHACA - PAMPA GALERAS - NASCA
Full board
After a refreshing bath in the crystal clear waters of the Pachachaca river, we will continue our ascent all the way to the town of Chalhuanca where we will stop to have lunch. From here onwards the landscape changes gradually and soon we will be at the golden plains of the Andes, travelling above the 4,000 meters above sea level mark, until we reach the town of Puquio and Pampas Galeras. Here we will watch several herds of Vicuña, a wild sibling of the llama. Vicuñas leave in this protected area as their very appreciated wool has put them on the brink of extinction.
At the end of these plains, a sinuous road will take us through dramatic geography down to the city of Nasca, (altitude 500 meters above sea level) where we shall camp.
Includes breakfast.
*Optional: Hotel

Day 04 (Tue) NASCA - PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE
Full board
The famous lines and figures of Nasca, underground aqueducts and pre-hispanic cemeteries will be visited during the morning, before we head for the Paracas Peninsula to camp at a beach within the limits of the National Reserve.
Includes breakfast and dinner.
*Optional: Overflight of the Nasca Lines & Figures

Day 05 (Wed) PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE - LIMA
Breakfast
We will take the morning to visit the Ballestas islands and its sea lion colony, do some bird-watching or simply enjoy the tranquility of the beach and its spectacular coastal landscapes.
