GATE TO THE INCA EMPIRE
DELUXE 8 DAYS: LIMA, CUSCO, MACHU PICCHU & URUBAMBA

Day 01 LIMA
Arrival in Lima. Reception and transfer to the Orient Express Deluxe Miraflores Park Hotel. Afternoon visit to Colonial and Modern Lima. Guided tour through the historic center of the city. Admire the beauty of San Martin and Major squares, the Cathedral, the Government Palace and visit the Convent of San Francisco and its catacombs, a religious building from the end of the XVI century. Drive through the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. Dinner at Rosa Nautica Restaurant for dinner, including transfers. (D)

Day 02 LIMA - CUSCO
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Cusco. Upon arrival transfer to the Orient Express Deluxe Mnasterio Hotel. Balance of the morning at leisure to adjust to the high altitude (11,000 feet). Afternoon city tour and nearby ruins. Visit Main Square, the Cathedral and its religious Art Museum, the Church of Santo Domingo or Koricancha, This tour includes visits to Sacsayhuaman and Puca Pucara fortresses, the temple and amphitheater of Kenko and the water shrine of Tambomachay. Day 03 CUSCO - MACHU PICCHU BY DELUXE TRAIN HIRAM BINGHAM
(Monday to Saturday all year round)
Transfer to the station for a morning train ride to the unparalleled, Machu Picchu, the "Lost City of the Incas". Machu Picchu was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site, probably the gateway to the jungle marches of the Inca Empire. The central buildings were erected with the polished stonework of the Cusco Imperial style, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. Machu Picchu was associated with the earth cult revolving around the Coca leaf, which was a privilege restricted to the Inca Royal family and priests.
On-board meals with Peruvian wine, Cusqueña Beer, soft drinks and hot drinks (brunch on outward journey, dinner on return), on-board entertainment, guides, bus transfers, entrance to the Machu Picchu sanctuary and afternoon tea at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, pre-dinner cocktails.

Day 04 MACHU PICCHU - URUBAMBA BY HIRAM BINGHAM
Morning free to explore the ruins on your own . Lunch at Sanctuary Lodge. Late afternoon departure by train to Urubamba. Dinner on board. Upon arrival at Ollanta station transfer to Sol y Luna Hotel or similar. (BB/L/D)

Day 05 URUBAMBA
Full day private excursion to the village of Pisac. Visit the authentic and traditional Indian Market, where Indians barter their products. Continue through a visit to Chinchero, a picturesque town near a pleasant small lake on a high plateau with an attractive church built on an Inca temple. Recent excavations have revealed many Inca walls and terraces. At the market, there is a wide selection of hadicrafts, including weavings, pottery and alpaca goods. Continue to Urubamba Valley to Ollantaytambo, favorite residence of the Incas, with its terraces running up the steep slope to the top where a carved stone throne allowed the ruler a magnificent view of his holdings. You will also see the fabulous Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo. Lunch included. Overnight in Urubamba. (BB/L)

Day 06 URUBAMBA – CUSCO
Guided visit to Maras. The inhabitants of Maras and Pichingoto will explain to us the process of extracting the salt that comes from a natural resource. Also included is a visit to a "chichería" and learn about the different ways of using corn. Then, continue to Pichingoto, where people live in natural caves, then continue with a visit the circular terraces of Moray, ancient Inca laboratories used to domesticate the cultivation of plants, which are now in use all over the world. Ending at your Monasterio Hotel in Cusco. Dinner at Cava de Don Rafael Restaurant including transfers. (BB/D)

Day 07 CUSCO – LIMA
Transfer to the airport in time to take the flight to Lima. Arrival in Lima. Transfer to your Miraflores Park hotel. Guided shopping tour. Farwell dinner at a local Restaurant (BB/D)

Day 08 LIMA - HOME
Transfer to the airport for your international departure flight (BB)
