Day 02 LA PAZ
Morning excursion to Tiahuanaco, located 72 km/45 miles - 1 hour from La Paz. The trip passes through the Bolivian Highlands, where you can see the Aymara Indian way of life. We pass Laja, the place were the city of La Paz was founded on October 20th in 1548, in which we come across a beautiful old church in the Renaissance style. Tiahuanaco is one of the oldest American cultures , carbon dated 14th century, which gives us an average age of 1580 BC until 1150 AC. It is considered the cradle of the American humanity and one of the most advanced cultures in development in those times. Its temples and constructions include: The Kalasasaya Temple, where you see the main work done by the Tiahuanacotas like the Gate of the Sun, the monoliths of Ponce and Fraile, the Akapana pyramid, the Semiunderground temple (a sunken temple where walls are lined with faces showing with different expressions).
Afternoon tour of La Paz, including the area of the street markets, rich in handicrafts, weavings and witchcraft artifacts representing the traditional beliefs of the Ch'alla (ritual of offerings) and Pachamama (Mother Earth and symbol of fertility). The tour goes through the colonial area of the city, San Francisco Church , Gold Museum, Murillo Square and the outdoor replica of the Tiahuanaco Temple. Then continue to the modern area of La Paz and see how the city is spreading and how the elevation drops down. Finally you leave the city to enter the Valley of the Moon where you enjoy a breathtaking view of its natural and unusual geological formations.
Day 03 LA PAZ - YUNGAS
This trip takes you through the subtropical area of Bolivia. The route has great views full of contrasts. We will go up to 4,650 m/15,246 ft at La Cumbre, surrounded by snow capped mountains with impressive glaciers, then drop down to 1,200 m/3,936 ft, passing the Bridal Veil Water Falls, to the village of Puente Villa. We will continue driving uphill again and then across a few coca leaf plantation to reach Coripata, a small town with great views of the area. Continue with many uphill and downhill roads until we reach Coroico, the capital of North Yungas which enjoys great weather conditions year round. Overnight at hotel. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 04 YUNGAS - CHULUMANI
Chulumani is a small town in South Yungas, 114 km/70 miles from La Paz, at 1,500-m/4,920 ft. Here we will enjoy a panoramic view of the Yungas region with its rich vegetation. The trip follows the same route to Coroico from La Paz until we reach Unduavi, where we leave the main road, passing the Bridal Veil Water Falls to head towards Chulumani. Walk around town to meet the locals and enjoy the good warm weather. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 05 CHULUMANI - LA PAZ
A visit to the Apa Apa Natural Reserve, to enjoy the nature and wildlife of the protected area. We will also see coca plantations; the production here goes to the traditional use of the coca leafs for chewing and tea and is of the best quality. Afternoon return to La Paz. Lunch is included.
Day 06 LA PAZ - HOME
Transfer to the airport for your international departure flight or continue your visit with the extension of your choice
